Perugia. L’Acropoli.
Via dei Priori.

Via dei Priori  is one of the main access routes to the historic center of Perugia. From the city skyline  emerges the Tower of Sciri, a monument symbol of the street and the whole city. The Tower is the only survivor, in its entirety, of an unknown number of towers that in the Middle Ages characterized the urban appearance of the city of Perugia (scholars attest to a number that fluctuates between 42 and 64 urban towers). Between the ninth and the thirteenth century, in fact, the tower represented a fundamental architectural element, as a military instrument, and as a representation of the noble prestige of the city families. And, as they have been a sign of power, so have the towers suffered divestments, reductions in height, or destruction as a result of various events over time.

Perugia. Via dei Priori.
Lago Trasimeno.

There is a close connection between the city of Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, not by chance in ancient times called the Lake of Perugia. The importance for Perugia of Trasimeno is testified by two panels of the Fontana maggiore, a monument symbol of Perugia: one reproduces two fishermen with fish, and another the Nymph of Trasimeno. If we want to go from the center of Perugia, from Fontana Maggiore, to Lake Trasimeno the shortest way is to travel via dei Priori, exit the city walls through Porta Trasimena.

The site was created thanks to the many people and associations who have collaborated generously providing information, photos, and texts. A special thanks to the photographers who donated their works dedicated to the city of Perugia.
